Casa de la Luz
Residential — India
Nestled in the lush landscape of Kerala, Casa de la Luz is a study in light and shadow. The design responds to the tropical climate with deep overhangs, cross-ventilation, and a material palette of local stone, teak, and hand-troweled lime plaster.
The home unfolds as a series of pavilions around a central courtyard — a strategy that blurs the boundary between interior and landscape. Every room opens to the garden, while carefully positioned apertures frame views of the surrounding hills.
Sustainability was central to the design: passive cooling strategies, rainwater harvesting, and solar passive orientation reduce energy demand by 60% compared to a conventional home.
